Expecting and Parenting Youth and Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence (IL)

Expectant and parenting youth – and survivors of domestic and sexual violence – have unique and, unfortunately, often unmet educational and related needs in the classroom and school community. This course will help school staff members understand and actively address these students’ needs to ensure their ability to stay in school, stay safe while in school and successfully complete their education.

Dr. John Mayer is a practicing clinical psychologist licensed in six states, who specializes in teens, families, youth, children, school consultation and young adults. His special areas of expertise are acting-out behaviors, including substance abuse, violence, practical parenting, discipline and all the usual mental health issues people bring into treatment. He is also a consultant to many schools and noted for his work there nationally, particularly extreme situations, crises management and intervention. He received his Ph.D from Northwestern University Medical School. He is an associate professor at the University of Nuevo Leon in Mexico.
