Medication Administration Basics (OR)

The goal of this course is to provide school staff members with a basic understanding of the procedures required to safely provide medications to students. Topics covered include components of medication orders for schools, safe and proper medication management in schools, basic procedures for administering medication, and special situations regarding giving medication to students.

Multnomah ESD, as one of Oregon’s largest ESD’s, has been actively creating and utilizing technology for training. Nowhere was that more evident than with their Health Services Team. This team has provided guidance to help make sure that certain SafeSchools courses conform to Oregon state law.

Lucinda Mejdell-Awbrey, RN, MA, is Director of Student Services for Visalia Unified School District in California. Lucinda has served students as a Credentialed School Nurse and School Administrator for over 30 years. In the early years, Lucinda worked primarily with students and their migrant families. For the past 17 years, she has developed and implemented a wide variety of school health and safety programs for Visalia Unified School District. Lucinda also provides community and school level trainings for the California Department of Education and other state and national organizations regarding School Safety Issues, Crisis Response Planning, Bullying and Harassment Prevention, School Nursing Practices, and Coordinated School Health Programs.
