Seclusion and Restraint Awareness (MI)

This course is designed to keep students safe and protect their dignity, while shielding employees and their school districts from possible legal liability. Course takers will receive an overview on Michigan law regarding the use of seclusion and restraint in emergency situations.

Robert Dietzel is an attorney at the Thrun Law Firm where he regularly represents public school clients in state and federal courts, in the Tenure Commission, and in state and federal tribunals on special education, disability rights, and pupil accounting matters. Dietzel regularly presents to public school officials on special education, disability rights, and general school law. Previously, he was an assistant attorney general with the Michigan Department of Attorney General. He represented the governor, the superintendent of public instruction, the State Board of Education, the Michigan Department of Education, the State Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules, and the Michigan School for the Deaf.
