This course provides staff with an overview of law regarding the mandated reporting of child abuse, including who must report and reporting requirements. We also provide indicators and definitions of various forms of child abuse, the impact of abuse on children and child protection.
Wendy Armstrong is an attorney licensed to practice in Ohio and California. She received a BA in Psychology from Miami University, a MA in Psychology from Boston University, and a JD from Chase College of Law. Wendy worked for the Hamilton County Court of Domestic Relations (in Cincinnati, OH) as a Family Counselor; she worked for Kaufman and Young Law Firm in Beverly Hills, CA; and is now in private practice. She has authored school-based training on Child Abuse, Intimate Partner Violence, the Clery and Save Acts and others.
Lucinda Mejdell-Awbrey, RN, MA, is Director of Student Services for Visalia Unified School District in California. Lucinda has served students as a Credentialed School Nurse and School Administrator for over 30 years. In the early years, Lucinda worked primarily with students and their migrant families. For the past 17 years, she has developed and implemented a wide variety of school health and safety programs for Visalia Unified School District. Lucinda also provides community and school level trainings for the California Department of Education and other state and national organizations regarding School Safety Issues, Crisis Response Planning, Bullying and Harassment Prevention, School Nursing Practices, and Coordinated School Health Programs.
